This is the last big adventure for 2016 – almost caught up. Next up 2017, and Puerto Rico. However, this post is about the Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race, which I hope to go see again this year in May. It is quite fun and amazing! This time I want to see the sculptures in water.
So the gist of the race is that folks build human-only-powered vehicles that must be able to go through all sorts of conditions. First, land, then Baltimore’s harbor, then land again – including a big hill, and then sand, mud, and probably something else. I saw the hill, part of the sand, and definitely the mud action.
Oh – and one of the interesting rules (Race Rules) states “Each Sculpture must carry at all times 1 comforting item of psychological luxury heretofore referred to as the ‘Homemade Sock Creature’ (HSC).”
Unfortunately, I recorded most of this through video, and I don’t have Premium access to WordPress, so I can’t upload it. You’ll have to content yourself with the pictures, and imagine the laughter, the oohs, and aahs, and the loud ‘ohs’ when a vehicle gets stuck in the mud.
Love this stuff! Creativity is human life!
The 2016 Grand Mediocre Winner was “The Bees Knees.” The full action can be seen via their multi-eyes here at: http://www.kineticbaltimore.com/KSR/2016/.
Fyi, the 2017 Baltimore Kinetic Sculpture Race will be Saturday, May 6, 2017. http://www.kineticbaltimore.com/.
